taking our culture forward

A unique trip into one of the best-preserved nuclear monitoring stations in the British Isles, operated by the Royal Observer Corps during the Cold War.

The Royal Observer Corps (ROC) operated this and a handful of other stations in the Isle of Man as a part of the chain across the British Isles.
They were to monitor radiation, weather conditions and other telling factors in the event of a nuclear fall-out, feeding them back to a central location in the UK.
It was in operation until after the fall of the USSR in 1991.

This is the only officially sanctioned public video tour around the bunker.
It is presented by Steve Kelly, who was a member of the Manx ROC at the end of its operation in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
This film was only possible with the generous help and assistance of the Isle of Man Civil Defence Corps.
