taking our culture forward

The first short film ever made in Manx Gaelic, Solace in Wicca, is based on the true story of Margaret Quaine, the only person ever executed for witchcraft in the Isle of Man.

After strange and damning accusations made by various members of the community in 1617, Margaret Quaine was burned, with her son, in Castletown. It is believed that the event proved to be so shocking to the Manx community that it ensured that no one was ever executed again for that apparent crime.

The film was directed by Andy North and written by Andy North & Nathan Russell-Raby. The project was partly funded through a grant awarded by Culture Vannin.
