Saints dedications - research fieldtrip

Recipient: Dr Deborah Crawford

A research grant was awarded to Dr Deborah Crawford for work on saints dedications in the Isle of Man.

The Isle of Man has a series of medieval ecclesiastical sites with dedications to St Patrick, the most intensive concentration outside of Ireland. These dedications are significant cultural markers, often with related medieval and post-medieval tradition or folklore. Fieldwork on the sites took place from May 16-29, 2015, accompanied by interviews with local contacts. Grants from multiple sources, including Culture Vannin, offset the May travel and fieldwork expenses. The information gathered during the effort, along with earlier and later research, is now in print in the journal e-Keltoi. It is freely available via the Internet, and the article title is “St Patrick and St Maughold: Saints’ Dedications in the Isle of Man.”
