Ned Maddrell Lecture 2017
Tue, 08 Aug 2017
This year's Ned Maddrell Lecture on an issue of language, culture and identity relevant to Manx is now available online.
The lecture entitled 'The Miracle of Turas' was delivered by Linda Ervine of the East Belfast Mission. The title of the lecture relates to the organisation in Northern Ireland which works towards the renewal and transformation of the East Belfast community through a reconnection of people from Protestant communities to their own history with the Irish language.
“Turas” means journey or pilgrimage in both Irish and Scots Gaelic. The Turas mission is an Irish language project designed to connect people from Protestant communities to their own history with the Irish language. The programme offers weekly language classes for a range of ability levels, as well as cultural activities and heritage themed sessions. www.ebm.org.uk/turas/
The Ned Maddrell lecture takes places each year, with a guest speaker being invited to deliver a lecture on language, culture and identity. It is organised by Culture Vannin, in conjunction with Yn Çheshaght Ghailckagh. More information about the lecture, access to all available past lectures, and news of other Manx language events is available on the Learn Manx website: www.learnmanx.com/
