The long-awaited book New Manx Worthies has been launched with a party in the Barrovian Hall in King William's College. The book, which has taken ten years to complete, is a compendium of the biographies of over two hundred Manx men and women who shaped the Isle of Man during the 20th century. The book features photographs of nearly all the Worthies, and includes entries on politicians, artists and writers, musicians, teachers, archeaologists and journalists. There are a number of eccentrics as well including a French spy who lived on a diet of dried peas and snails, a doctor who did magic tricks including sealing himself in a lead-lined coffin, and the first Manx Muslim. New Manx Worthies is on sale in local bookshops priced at £30.
